An Adventure in Economical Gaming - The Console Edition.

Evening folks!

Hopefully you've all read Tom's excellent inaugural post on this years Humble Indie bundle (if not & you are a PC/Mac/Linux gamer then I'd urge you to check it out by clicking here) and it's motivated me to write something similar, but for the console gamers among you.

The trouble is, there isn't really an equivalent movement on the consoles - yes most of the games featured in the Humble Indie Bundle can be found on Xbox Live Arcade or PSN Store but they don't normally have bundle deals - besides, if I'm going to buy a game for my 360, it's normally of the boxed AAA variety and so my objective then becomes to buy it for as little as possible - and in this post, dear reader, I'm going to share some of my David Dickson-esq bargin hunter techniques with you...
  1. Get a QuidCo account - Quidco is a fab site that gives you cashback for purchasing goods at certain  online and real world stores.  The amount of cashback you receive varies from site to site but the important thing is that almost all of the online stores that sell console games will give you cashback via QuidCo - this is a very good thing indeed.
  2. Get a Gamestracker account - This site lets you set up a wish list of games that you like and will email you should the prices of one or more of the games on your list drop below a certain threshold (you get to pick what the threshold is).  Gamestracker monitors the prices of all of the major online retailers and you can search for the prices of games even if you dont have account with them... but seriously, go make an account.
  3. Sign up for updates via Facebook or Twitter from these bargain hunter websites:
These sites are run by communities of gamers who submit the deals and bargains they find, quite often they'll list deals which only last a short time and so don't make it onto Gamestrackers list.
Once you have all of the accounts set up, you'll never miss another cheap game again, and if you buy it via Quidco you get even more money off.

Result.

:)

Injustice: Gods Among Us E3 2012 Announcement Trailer [HD]

So here we have a trailer for a game from the folks that brought Mortal Kombat back from the dead last year, yes it's another fighting game, but look... it's all about DC superheros... slapping each other about a bit.

I say "a bit" - Superman can punch someone INTO. OUTER. SPACE.

For more details, check out this interview with Ed Boon, co-creator of Mortal Kombat and the Creative Director of Nether Realm Studios:

Excited much?

Assassins Creed 3 E3 2012 Trailer [HD]

I must admit, I've never payed the first Assassins Creed, I read all the previews and was deeply excited by the prospect of playing a 12th century Assassin, but was put off from buying it once the reviews came out - the concerns seemed to be that the graphics were gorgeous but the mission's were highly repetitive.  Ubisoft addressed these concerns 12 months later with the release of Assassins Creed 2, set 400 years after the original it introduced a new Assassin, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, the Batman of resonance Italy with a penchant for sticking pointy metal objects into people, usually with fatal results.

Ezio's story spanned three games, the last of which came out last year and so now Ubisoft are ready to move the franchise on to a time period, a new continent and introduce a new Assassin, Connor Kenway who's going to get all stabby stabby during the American Civil war:

I love Assassin's Creed - it's only one of two games which I pre-order on an annual basis (the other one being Call of Duty) so I'm really looking forward to this, but I must admit I'm going to miss leaping off those roof tops in Venice.

Whilst I'm on the subject of Venetian rooftops, if you've played any of Ezio's adventures you'll know just how damn good the original score by Jesper Kyd is, this is a gem of a mashup by YouTuber Intox7792 which I stumbled across over the weekend, it combines three tracks from Assassin's Creed 2 together to create something that's greater than the sum of it's parts - it's only had 388 views so far, so take a listen & if you like it, spread the word...

Grazie.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron E3 Trailer

Well, t'was E3 this week and although the majority of the media briefings were a bit on the dull side (I want GAMES Microsoft, not apps or a new music store...) it did see the release of some excellent new trailers, not least this one from High Moon Studios for their forthcoming Fall of Cybertron.

Now is it just me or is this better than all of Michael Bay's efforts combined?

I need this game, August can't come soon enough...

"I can haz Metroplex?"
